This way you save yourself a lot of time, money, and hassle.
The Number One Killer of Online School Students’ Success
Procrastination! When it is up to you to decide when to work and when not to you often find that a million and one things suddenly seem more important and you keep saying to yourself that you can catch up tomorrow. It all comes down to disciplining yourself and being organized. Going to an online school requires you to be dedicated and make time to complete the work no matter what.
Other Mistakes
Students studying online should avoid the following:
- Future Employers: In this day and age most employers recognize an online education and its benefits. But you do have to realize that some employers still see a potential employee with their degree or diploma earned from an online school as a possible fake as there are online schools out there that are not accredited, and diploma mills!. So it might be better not to tell them it was an online school course and only mention the online school name.
- Finding the Right Online School: Choosing the right online school for you can be really hard as the real schools and the “diploma mill” degree can look very similar. The best way to avoid falling into this trap is to check the online schools thoroughly before you enroll. Make sure that they have the right regional accreditation.
- Feeling Alone: Some distance learning students find that they feel lonely and miss being able to interact with other students and teachers. Being able to bounce ideas of each other is for some an integral part of learning. They best way to do this is to remember that you can participate in the chat rooms and forums to keep in touch. Make sure your online school has these!
- The Cost: Keeping the costs down when you go to school wether an online school or a regular school can be expensive. Some things may be costly where as others not so much, but what you need to remember is that although it may be financially draining now, the rewards that you will reap in the future will out weigh the current costs so don’t lose faith half way through your course. We talk more about this in our scholarships and financial aid articles.
- Not Using Resources: Some people fail to realize fully all of the resources that they have at their fingertips. The resources section of your online school is a veritable online library. They are filled to the brim with all the information you could ever need to answer all of your questions, and help you with access to dictionaries that are virtual, books, and resources. Utilizing this online library will save you a fortune on books.
- Getting Credit: Make sure that if you have completed studies elsewhere you can transfer the credits you have already accomplished. If you’re online school refuses at first petition them as you may be able to get your credits where they are due.
