look at accreditation and fees when choosing an online school

Finding a good online school can be difficult if you don’t know what you are looking for, and there are a lot of schools to go through; so finding out what’s good, and what’s not, before you start can really help you out. The best way to solve this problem is to create a checklist you can tick the most important things off you desire in a virtual school. And if they do not live up to the right standards, then don’t even bother contacting them for more information.

Questions to Ask an Online School

So what do you put on this checklist? What should you be checking for? Below are some of the things we consider important:

  • Are they accredited? Check to see if they are accredited. Any online school that isn’t is probably a waste of time, as some employers will not recognize the diploma or degree you have worked so hard for. Any institute that is accredited (at least, in the US) will be from one of these organizations: MSA, NEASC, NCA, NWCCU, SACS, DETC and SACS.
  • Meets Local State/Country Requirements: Every city/state/country has different requirements that a school has to adhere to, to enable its students to graduate and pass any diplomas or degrees. A credible online school will always list which regions they fulfill this requirement in.
  • Meets Your Standards: Your own expectations of educational standards from your online institute is just as important. You may be behind on certain credits or subjects, so choosing a school that allows you to learn at your own pace, so that you can catch up on what you are missing, can also be an important factor. Remember quality is better than quantity. Fish online and see what people are saying about that online school.
  • Reasonable Fees: Always check the cost of tuition. Some schools are costlier than the rest, and some are even free, if it’s a public charter school. Private online schools are where the real costs come out, but it does not mean the more they cost the better the standard and level of education.
  • Online Demos: Does the online school have demos for classes and assignments? If so take a look at the quality of them. A well-run school with high standards would never allow shoddy workmanship onto their website–but beware of being over-marketed to.
  • How Long They’ve Been Open: Many people forget to ask about their online school this question. Some newer online schools can be risky to judge, as there is not enough proof yet that they are any good.

This represents only a small set of potential qusetions. Now I have got you started, you should be able to get that check list up and running to find the best online school for you, so that you can choose the right one, rather than taking a chance and joining an online school that’s wrong for you.

What other qualities make an online school desirable? Tell us some of the best of the online school that you’re in, and how it shaped your experiences.
